While in Italy, Judy and I had dinner in a small cafe one night. We were seated at a table in a quaint little niche in the restaurant when Judy looked around the room and noticed something. Smiling, she told me to look where she was pointing. There, hanging on the wall adjacent to where we were sitting, was a Dempsey Essick print! It was the print of “Zinnia Garden” that our children (Shelly and Kirk Blankenship) have in their home! We couldn't believe it - an Essick print from North Carolina was hanging on a wall in Florence, Italy, the supposed art capital of the world! I guess you could say that Dempsey Essick is now an American artist of international note! Our only regret is that we had left the camera in the room however it was very refreshing to see a bit of Americana in an otherwise foreign land!
